AI Accountability Framework

Last Updated: 30 December 2024

Kalmi Pty Ltd is committed to operating ethically and responsibly while adhering to relevant Australian regulations. This document outlines our approach to governance, internal capability, and regulatory compliance.

As a growing, solo-operated company, we recognise the importance of scalability and adaptability as our business evolves.

1. Governance

1.1 Leadership Commitment

  • The founder oversees all aspects of Kalmi Pty Ltd, ensuring alignment with ethical principles and regulatory requirements.

  • Operational decisions prioritise transparency, user safety, and privacy protection.

1.2 Ethical AI Governance

Kalmi Pty Ltd adheres to the Australian AI Ethics Principles, including:

  • Fairness: Avoiding discrimination or unfair outcomes.

  • Privacy Protection: Embedding safeguards to protect user data.

  • Accountability: Taking responsibility for the outcomes and impact of AI systems.

  • Transparency: Clearly communicating the purpose, limitations, and capabilities of Kalmi AI to users.

While Kalmi Pty Ltd strives to meet these principles, our approach remains proportionate to the scale and capacity of a sole-operated business.

2. Internal Capability

2.1 Expertise and Skill Development

  • The founder is committed to ongoing education in AI ethics, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance.

  • As the business grows, employees and contractors will receive training to align with Kalmi AI’s values and operational standards.

2.2 Ethical Design

  • Ethical considerations are integrated throughout the AI development lifecycle — from data collection to user experience design.

  • User anonymity is maintained, and no human reviews individual user conversations.

3. Strategy for Regulatory Compliance

3.1 Compliance with Australian Laws

Kalmi AI complies with key Australian regulations, including:

  • Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)

  • Australian Privacy Principles (APPs)

  • Relevant Cybersecurity Standards

3.2 Ongoing Monitoring and Updates

  • Legal and regulatory developments are monitored regularly via updates from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) and the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC).

  • Kalmi AI will integrate changes into operational practices as needed.

3.3 Proportional Compliance Documentation

  • Records of key compliance activities and data processing practices are maintained.

  • As the business scales, compliance reporting processes will be formalised.

4. Accountability Process

4.1 Feedback Mechanisms

  • Kalmi Pty Ltd values user feedback to improve services and address concerns promptly.

4.2 Independent Audits (Future Implementation)

  • While Kalmi Pty Ltd does not currently undergo independent audits, this will become a priority as the business scales.

  • Future audits will cover data security, privacy compliance, and AI system performance.

4.3 Transparent Communication

  • Regular updates on compliance efforts, AI governance improvements, and user-focused enhancements will be shared with users.

  • Future plans include annual accountability reports once scalability allows.

5. Scalability and Growth

  • This framework is designed to evolve and scale alongside Kalmi Pty Ltd’s growth.

  • Future team members will include roles specifically focused on compliance, ethics, and AI governance.
