Frequently Asked Questions
Kalmi is powered by generative AI, but it’s not “just another chatbot.” Kalmi is purpose-built for emotional wellbeing. It’s programmed with specific safeguards, intentions, and instructions guiding it on how to help you process your thoughts and feelings, rather than just answer questions or generate content.
You can, but ChatGPT isn’t designed to support emotional self-reflection in a safe and structured way. Kalmi is. Kalmi’s entire framework is built around supporting you to work through your emotions- untangle confusion, gain clarity, reframe negative thoughts, and feel more in control of your mindset. Without a specific emotional support framework around its responses, ChatGPT and other general-purpose generative AI will provide more generic responses that aren't as helpful as you may need.
Kalmi does not provide mental health or medical advice. It’s been specifically instructed not to act like a professional therapist or counsellor because it's not one. Instead, it gently guides you toward useful insights and perspectives and, when appropriate, directs you to relevant professional support services. This ensures your wellbeing is always the priority.
Kalmi has been given instructions to actively mitigate a wide range of common AI biases, including those around gender, race, disability, and socio-economic background.
It’s also trained to prevent you from reinforcing harmful thought patterns (e.g., “I failed at this, so I am a failure”) and instead helps you reframe these into helpful truths like “failure is simply feedback, it’s part of growth", which helps to prevent you from embedding that you are a failure inside as a core belief and how you perceive yourself.
When you start to attach negative experiences to your self identity it impacts your whole life: your behaviour, such as giving up or not bothering to try, how you interact with others in the world - or don't - and importantly, your overall mental wellbeing. Through interacting with Kalmi it can help to prevent this decline.
Kalmi is ideal for anyone who wants to better understand themselves, improve their mindset, or simply feel less alone. It’s especially helpful for people who:
Feel uncomfortable opening up to others
Can’t access therapy (cost, location, or stigma)
Want a private, 24/7 support tool that’s always on their side
Write in a journal, but want to enhance the self-reflection and daily scheduling experience and make journaling more interactive
